Office of the Manitoba Fairness Commissioner

The Office of the Manitoba Fairness Commissioner (OMFC) works with 30 regulated professions in Manitoba under the Fair Registration Practices in Regulated Professions Act (the Act) to help make certain they treat and assess applicants fairly.

We focus mainly on internationally educated applicants (IEAs). Our goal is to ensure all qualified IEAs with academic training and professional experience similar to what we find in Canada are either:

1. fully licensed and practicing independently within a year

or

2. have the opportunity to work in their field either under supervision or with a restricted scope of duties

We believe that in an efficient and fair system, this is possible.

The Act dictates that the Fairness Commissioner cannot get involved in an assessment or registration decision. This means she cannot advocate, investigate, direct or influence a regulator to change or to reconsider a decision.

The OMFC does not assess qualifications and we cannot help individual immigrants get licensed in Manitoba.

However, if you have a fairness concern, you are welcome to meet with us to share your experience. We may be able to offer you useful information and advice. Many IEAs have said they find talking with our office helpful. We also appreciate these discussions and feel we do our jobs better because of the experiences you share with us.
